Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all in our community. This page summarises our understanding of EDI and how these principles apply to our meetings and seminars.

WHAT IS EQUITY?
Equity and equality both mean fairness. Unlike equality, equity also acknowledges that certain groups have been subjected to systemic and historical disadvantages. In doing so, equity aims to reduce these barriers.

WHAT IS DIVERSITY?
A diversity of people and perspectives. This principle means acknowledging, accepting, and respecting differences within our community. Such differences include (but are not limited to) gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, age, religion, socio-economic status, and physical ability.

WHAT IS INCLUSION?
Inclusion involves honouring, incorporating, and celebrating the diversity in our community. This means that everybody, regardless of their differences, feels a sense of belonging.

By joining us and participating in our meetings and seminars, we expect these values to be upheld. In particular, we expect our members to:

  • Actively engage in discussions in a way that supports the development of an equitable, diverse, and inclusive community.

  • Respect other members opinions and perspectives, regardless of background.

  • Ensure that our members engage in a way that creates a supportive, safe, and welcoming environment for all.

  • Recognise that we prohibit all unlawful discrimination and harassment. Failure to uphold these basic values will result in removal from all future meetings.

How do these three pillars apply to our meetings and seminars?
